Puffins and Gannets and Murres, Oh My!

My tour of Newfoundland was wonderful – as in literally full of wonders. Not least of which was the birds. Here are my best bird pics from the trip, starting with my favourite first:

Atlantic Puffin

And here’s where the puffins live – in these holes on a cliff:

Northern Gannet

Common Murre

Some Common Murres look like they are wearing white glasses. They are called “bridled”.

Common Murre (bridled)

We saw A LOT of Murres:

Between the Murres and the Puffins it looked like a mosquito swarm around the island!

Razorbill

Black-legged Kittiwake

Great Black-backed Gull

I took the following picture of a couple of Great Black-backed Gulls and didn’t realize until I looked at it later that there were chicks!

Herring Gull

I think that’s all the new birds I saw. And then were icebergs! And whales! More pictures to come.
