Honeycreepers

Honeycreepers are small colourful birds of the tanager family. I hadn’t heard of honeycreepers before my trip to Costa Rica. They feed on nectar, which is how they get their name but as you can see from some of these pictures, they eat fruit as well.

Isn’t that magnificent? He’s a Resplendent Quetzal. What a way to start a morning!

Then we walked around the hotel area. I couldn’t resist taking a picture of this gorgeous scenery:

Here’s two different shots of the same bird – a Fiery-throated Hummingbird. It’s amazing what a difference the angle of the light makes.
