Accommodations

I am falling so far behind in these posts – always a good sign that a vacation is going well. 🙂

We’re birding everyday from about 6 a.m. to about 5:00 p.m. and by the evening I’m beat! But I am absolutely 110% loving it!

Day 6 and 7, we were in Caño Negro which is in the north of Costa Rica and just a few kms from Nicaragua. We stayed at the Caño Negro Natural Lodge:
On Sunday we drove about 6 hours south to Cerro Lodge near the Carara National Park. Here was my room:

It even had three beds! See the door with the signs on it? It was the door to the bathroom. Imagine my surprise when I opened it and saw this:
Yep. That’s the great outdoors. The bathroom only has three walls! That was a new one on me! It was dark when we got there so I couldn’t see that there was also a screen around it. I just thought “What the…?” Once I figured it out though, it was actually kind of neat. Here’s a view from the throne in the day light.

Today, we drove about 4 hours south east to Hotel Savegre which is at about 7200 ft above sea level. Definitely the coolest area we’ve been in. And here’s my room:

You can’t see it but there’s actually a third bed (again!) to the right of these beds, and this time the bathroom has four walls. 🙂 And the really nice thing is that there is Wi-Fi in the room so I can finally do some posting!

We stay here for two nights and then return to our first hotel for one more night before leaving for home on the 23rd. If all goes well, I should be home by noon on Christmas Eve.

Now I’ll quickly do a post with some more bird pictures and then get to bed. We’re off at 5:45 again tomorrow morning for another day of birding. Woo-hoo! 🙂
