I saw Lawrence of Arabia at the theatre this weekend. Wow! You can’t get much epic-er than that. (Hey, it’s my blog – I can make up words if I want.) Even the trailer is epic!
I’d never seen the movie before. I’m glad I saw it at the theatre rather than at home on TV. Just not the same experience.
Speaking of experience – the movie got off to a late start. It started, but then it stopped. A young man came out and said they were having technical difficulties but they would fix them shortly. It started up again. The music began and the screen was blank. It stopped again and the same young man came out to apologize for the difficulties. It was then that an older gentleman in the audience said to him “You do know that the first few minutes is the overture and that there isn’t supposed to be any picture, right?” To which the young man replied “Really? Oh then I guess it is working.” It started up again and continued to the end. 🙂
Interesting tidbits about the movie:
- There are no female characters other than extras, and no female speaking parts at all.
- It is almost 4 hours long. This includes a 15-minute intermission.
- It’s playing again at Galaxy Cinema in Saskatoon this Wednesday (Nov. 14) at 6:30 p.m. and admission is only $6!
Now the only question remaining is: Who do you think was more handsome – Peter O’Toole or Omar Sharif?
Although O’Toole is handsome and has the bluest eyes I have ever seen, my vote goes to the rugged and classy Sharif.
